Welcome to Merchiston Bowling Club

About Us
Formed in 1892, we are a flat green bowling club open to men and women of all ages.  We are situated in the Polwarth/Merchiston area of Edinburgh.  The club wishes to encourage all levels of bowlers and particularly welcomes members who have never bowled before.

Social Bowls :
We have social games for all on Saturday and Monday afternoons (1.30pm for a 2pm start) and also occasionally on a Wednesday night (not during league season).  The emphasis is on fun! It is a great way of getting to know fellow bowlers and for practising the game.  We also organise some mixed knockout competitions - Mixed Pairs knockout runs throughout the season and Mixed Internal knockout competitions at weekends. There's also an external Open pairs competition in August each year.

Everyone is welcome at the club and if you are new to the game, we can provide bowls and shoes. 

Leagues : 
The Bowling Club has separate Men's and Ladies' sections for all other games.

The Men’s section

• The club has 2 teams (one of 16, one of 8) that compete in the Edinburgh Bowling League (EBL) playing against other Edinburgh clubs.  Games are played on Wednesday evenings
• We compete in Bowls Scotland and Edinburgh top 10 fixtures (all played in the evening)
• Seniors compete in the RMBA and SESBA leagues on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 1.30pm
• Internal competitions.  These vary between weekend fun events and club honours knockout competitions

The Ladies’ section

• We have 2 teams of 3 bowlers who play in the South Edinburgh Ladies Bowling League (SELBL) playing against other Edinburgh clubs.  Games are played on Tuesday afternoons at 1.30pm
• We compete  in Bowls Scotland, East of Scotland WBA and Edinburgh Woman's BA.  These are all afternoon games usually starting at 2pm
• Internal knockout competitions
• We meet up socially throughout the winter on a Monday and Friday sfternoon

Social events :

• The clubhouse contains a bar and a big screen for televised sporting events
• The "beer garden" is popular in better weather and allows all sections of the club to mix socially
• Saturday night get-togethers.  Bingo and dominoes are optional!
• Monthly quiz nights and various other social events throughout the year

The green opening day in 2023 is Saturday April 15th, 1.30pm.
