2021 saw the return of school sports days to Liss Infants, Liss Juniors and Greatham Primary Schools with a whole week of sport during 19th - 25th June.
The national event was a week-long celebration championing youth sport. The main goal was to highlight how important school sport is for children's mental and physical health.
All sports and group activity can help reduce isolation and improve mental health, but tennis is particularly well placed to help – it’s a sport that anyone can play, can be adapted for any level of ability, impairment or disability and is complemented by a very beneficial social element.
As in previous years, Newman Collard Tennis Club supported the schools and organised for an accredited coach to deliver tennis sessions to the children in the schools. Club Coach, George Manley, had a busy week with visits to Greatham on Monday and Tuesday morning and Liss on Thursday as he managed the extra in-school sessions alongside his existing sessions such as “I play 30” for the Liss Infants SEN unit.
