RIDING Mill Tennis Cub has drawn up new proposals to provide lighting for its double courts off Millfield Road.

Following the unsuccessful application to install a ‘Tweener’ lighting system, the club has undertaken a thorough and detailed review of possible alternative systems.

In collaboration with a specialist lighting consultant, the club has selected an option which will provide sufficient lighting to allow tennis to be played on the courts outside daylight hours, while at the same time ensuring any disturbance will be minimal and well within acceptable levels so as not to have an impact on nearby residents and the local environment.

An outline of the proposal was presented to club members on March 28, and subsequently shared with the Parish Council, the club’s landlord.

A comprehensive lighting report has concluded that the lighting system will be sufficient to allow tennis to be played on the courts all-year-round, and that any lighting spillage will not impact on areas outside the curtilage of the courts and will be within acceptable levels.

An ecological evaluation also confirmed the system would not have an impact, outside acceptable levels, on nearby wildlife and the local environment.

Alternatively, any comments can be passed on directly to the club at a Family Open Day to be held at the courts from 2pm to 4pm, on Saturday, April 25. This will be an ideal opportunity to take a look at the tennis facilities available, play some tennis for free, and raise any questions about the club’s future development plans.
