Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Dear Member

Like everyone else, Rothbury Tennis Club has been considering how the Coronavirus Pandemic might affect the way  that the club functions.

The Clubhouse

The Recreation Club has recently taken the decision to lock the clubhouse as a safety precaution.

Club Activities

We had planned some American Tournaments over the summer as well as our usual Open Day. We were also planning the usual spring cleanup of the courts, but these have all been cancelled for this summer.

The league, in which we usually enter teams, has suspended matches for the present time.

Coaching

Grant Watson, our coach, has taken the decision to suspend coaching until further notice.

Court Closure

We had hoped that we might allow members to continue playing, but in light of the Prime Minister’s announcements tonight it is obvious that this can no longer be our position and we are closing the courts until further notice.

LTA Advice

The LTA have been considering the implications of the coronavirus pandemic with regard to safety for tennis players and give advice on their website:

https://www.lta.org.uk/about-us/tennis-news/news-and-opinion/general-news/2020/march/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-for-venues/

I would suggest that you follow their advice as they will be keeping it updated in a rapidly changing situation.

This advice may change frequently so if you are wondering if things have changed, check the LTA website.

If any of you want to discuss these recommendations, please feel free to get in touch with me or any of the club officers.

I am sad that it has been necessary to write this letter, and wish the whole community well in this difficult time.
