At the start of 2025, the Tennis Club Committee took a decision to develop Junior tennis at the club by:

1) working with our Club Coach, Jill Le Pla, to provide 10 hours of free coaching to girls at 2 Primary schools & 2 Secondary schools. There is a trend for girls to move away from playing sports in this age range.

The girls were then invited to 2 competition days at the club (27th June for Secondary & 4th July for Primary). This initiative was made possible by a grant from Yorkshire Tennis & the support of Club volunteers

The schools which took part were:

- Westfield Primary (Acomb)

- Hob Moor Primary (Holgate)

- Badger Hill Primary

- All Saints Secondary

- Millthorpe Secondary

- Fulford Secondary

2) Providing 2 hours of supervised tennis every Thursday (4pm to 6pm) from 1st May to the end of August 2025 for girls and boys. The club provides rackets & balls.

This was again made possible by funding from Yorkshire Tennis. The aim here is to ensure that cost is not a barrier to any child wanting to learn the game & get the benefits of fresh air, exercise & socialising with other boys & girls in a safe & friendly environment.
