History of our club
Stapleford Parish Council replaced the old courts with two 'Tweener' floodlit, carpet-surfaced, multi-use courts in July 2021. This started a new era of tennis provision in Stapleford. Our club is now growing again, reinforcing the ideal of ‘build it and they will come’.
In August 2020 STC surrendered its lease to Stapleford Parish Council; the Parish Council managed the grounds maintenance and capital projects, while STC ran the LTA-affiliated club and organise club sessions, coaching, tournaments. However, in 2024 STC took back some control of grounds maintenance and is working with the Parish Council to establish annual running costs for the MUGA facility.
From 2017 to 2019 STC reduced, then suspended, its coaching programme as well as club sessions because of the aged playing surface.
In 2016 we extended the coaching to some adult sessions.
In 2014 and 2015 the club ran successful and popular junior coaching sessions, as well as some sessions for non-members. At that time our membership numbers topped 200 members, split roughly evenly between male and female, adult and child; this was far in excess of the LTA's standard expectation of numbers of members per court for a club such as this.
