Wooler Tennis Club Chairman’s Report 2025
First I would like to say a big thank you to the WTC Committee for their support over the past year. It has been encouraging to see the Committee working together and focused on the Aims of the Club to increase membership. Also thank you to last years retiring committee for assisting the new committee members with the transition. I am also delighted to welcome two non-committee members Barbara Taylor as the incoming Safeguarding Officer and Duncan Mackenzie as the new Website Manager, both are greatly valued by the committee for volunteering to manage the above positions.
Over the past year despite poor weather the Club has held two successful Open Days, entered a friendly match with Berwick Tennis Club which was enjoyed by all, followed by delicious tea. The club welcomed back Phil Barron affiliated LTA coach, Phil provided coaching for Adults and Juniors which proved to be very successful and will be coaching again this coming season. The Club has continued with Club Nights for members on the last Friday of the month during the winter, the evenings have proven to be popular with both playing members and social members.
The Club has committed to the maintenance program, the annual painting of the clubhouse, tidy up days and a huge effort from Vic and Kevin who supplied the materials for the new patio in front of the Clubhouse which is admired and appreciated by the players. Volunteers are needed to continue with the maintenance programme and further Whats Apps will inform members of the Tidy Up dates. The courts are due to be professionally painted in May, weather permitting.
Financially the club is secure and the committee will be arranging various events to increase funds over the coming year with a Creep fit evening and a Coffee Morning dates to be confirmed. The Committee would welcome ideas from the members on future fundraising and ways to increase membership.
The main aim for the Club in 2025 will be to increase both Adult and Junior membership. Membership numbers at present are 29 Adults 10 Juniors.
I wish all Members an enjoyable and injury free tennis season, Linda
