Lesson Guides - To Help You Find The Right Coaching

Juniors

Regular Weekly Sessions
Mini Tennis
is a low cost LTA initiative designed to get children into tennis at a young age. Classes are organised by age group and colour coded for ease of reference.
Mini-Tennis Red (5-8yrs) is an ideal introductory level group for young children. The sessions  focus on a range of activities, skills and games covering basic agility, balance and co-ordination.  The coaches use special big red tennis balls  which bounce slowly and give the children lots of time to  move,  develop control and hit them. These sessions are  active and very enjoyable. They help the children develop the basic skills and shots. The main priorities are to make tennis fun and friendly!
Mini Tennis  Orange/Green (8-10yrs) is an ideal introductory level group for slightly older children. The sessions  focus on a range of activities, skills and games covering basic agility, balance and co-ordination.  The coaches use special Orange and/or Green tennis balls for this age group, which still bounce more slowly than regular yellow balls  and give the children plenty of time to focus on positioning, balance and hitting the ball properly.  As above, these sessions are  also active and enjoyable and  designed to help the children develop basic skills and shots.  As always, we aim to make these sessions fun and friendly for everyone.
Junior Tennis (10+yrs) coaching is when children really start to find their game. The sessions take place on full-size courts and yellow balls  are used - the kids start to play tennis like the pros.  The basic strokes and skills are still focused on, but tactics and ddifferent styles of play are also explored. Having fun and enjoying tennis  is still very important.

6 Week Block Courses
Tennis for Kids (6-10yrs) and Youth Start (11yrs+)
are LTA initiatives designed to get children into tennis at a young age. The courses are organisied by age group and are for children who have played little or no tennis. The sessions are packed full of fun games and dynamic training. We want kids to bring all their energy to tennis; no ‘quiet please’ needed here! Groups are usually limited to 12 participants, but when we can use two courts  we can safely increase this number to 15 children.

Adults - Courses graded according to ability.

Groups Ability Descriptions
New Player: Has no or limited tennis experience and is still working primarily on getting the ball into play.
Beginner: Needs on-court experience. Has obvious stroke weaknesses but is familiar with basic positions for singles and doubles play, learning to judge where the ball is going although court coverage is weak. Can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.
Beginner/Intermediate: Fairly consistent when hitting medium-paced shots but is not comfortable with all strokes and lacks execution when trying for directional control, depth or power. Needs work on depth and variety.
Intermediate: Has achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but still lacks depth and variety. Starting to exhibit more aggressive net play and has improved court coverage.
Advanced: Has dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. May be starting to master the use of power and spins (though tends to over-hit difficult shots). Rallies may be lost due to impatience.

6 Week Block Courses
