Berwick Tennis Club Launches Singles Ladder

Berwick Tennis Club has launched a mixed-singles ladder that will run throughout from 1 April until the end of June. The objective of the ladder is to get as high a ranking as possible by the end of the season.

The overall winner will be the person at the top of the ladder at the end date. However, as this is a mixed league, there will be men’s and ladies' winners.

Please register as a user and contact Karen Bagley, who is the event administrator. Karen will provide you with a code to join the ladder. Her number is 07719 174769 and she will be happy to help if you cannot download Slappy or have any queries about the competition. Jess Bagley will be second administrator when required.

Challenge and Match Rules:

  1. Challenger may challenge a player up to and including 3 places above.
  2. Players should only have 2 matches pending/in process at any one time.
  3. The challenger selects his or her opponent on the ladder and clicks “Arrange Game”.
  4. A date, time and message can be sent.
  5. The opponent must either accept, send message or decline but the match must be arranged to be played within 7 days of the original challenge (unless there are exceptional circumstances such as holidays or injury).
  6. If the opponent declines 3 dates, and no date is agreed within 7 days, then the challenger may claim the win.
  7. Matches consist of 2 sets, and in the event of a tie a 3rd set consisting of a match tie-break set to 10 will be played. The challenger should provide new balls for the match.
  8. In the event of one player not turning up for the match and there is no contact/explanation, then after 20 minutes the other player can claim the win.
  9. In the event of rain disrupting play and match unable to be finished,  the player who wins the most games in total is deemed to be the winner.
  10. In the event of cancellation of match due to weather, another date can be set but must be played within the 7-day deadline.
  11. The winner should input the result on Slappy as soon as possible after the match by selecting the opponent and clicking “Capture Result”. The opponent must also confirm the result. This will keep the ladder updated for other players.
  12. You cannot challenge or be challenged by the same person within 14 days.

Positions on Ladder following match:

If the winner has the higher position, there is no change. If the winner has the lower position, he takes the higher position. The loser and others below the winner move down one position. The calculation is based on the position of the 2 players when the match is recorded and not at the time the challenge is made.It is not unusual for the positions to have changed during the interval.
