Lincolnshire Tennis Awards 2025

The winners of the Lincolnshire Tennis 2025 awards were announced recently and we’ve had quite a few successes here at GTC! A huge congratulations to everyone who has won an award and to those who were nominated and highly commended.

Winners:

  • Park of the Year – Wyndham Park managed by Grantham Tennis club for making tennis available to the local community through ‘Free Park Tennis’ sessions on a Sunday morning as well as supporting local events and initiatives in the park. The sessions are run by a team of wonderful volunteer park activators and have been enjoyed by lots of junior and adult players of all abilities in the local community.
  • Special School of the Year – Newton Bridge Academy working with Grantham Tennis Club to deliver high quality tennis coaching. This started off with a taster session targeting over 80% of pupils to allow maximum exposure across all year groups. This experience was so positive, it led to a further 6 weeks of coaching being delivered, both in school and indoors at GTC. Being at GTC provided pupils with a real-life experience of what a tennis club looks like with regards to facilities, equipment and coaching. All pupils and staff had a fantastic time, and we look forward to continuing to build on this positive relationship.
  • Richard Edgley Tennis Opened Up – Grantham Tennis Club for our commitment to making tennis as inclusive as possible with help from the LTA Open Court Programme and the Lincolnshire Tennis 4 All programme. In 2025 the club provided lots of inclusive opportunities through our disability programmes including wheelchair tennis, and groups such as Feel Good mental wellbeing, Walking Tennis and Active at 60 sessions, as well as delivering taster sessions in nurseries and schools. We have also welcomed groups such Brownies & Club scouts to the club, along with working alongside charitable organisations such as our local Parkinsons group and Shine Lincolnshire to name a few.
  • Official of the Year – Peter Moseley for refereeing the Play Your Way to Wimbledon - Lincolnshire County Finals 2025, 8U County Cup 2025, numerous events on the North & Midlands East Tour (and supported with others) and a Winter Regional tour grade 3 tournament, receiving positive feedback on how welcoming and helpful Peter is whilst always remaining calm.
  • Competition of the Year – Grantham Tennis Club Junior Doubles League, an inclusive 22-week Sunday doubles league that gave 32 young players aged 11 to 14—many competing for the first time—a fun, supportive introduction to matchplay. By balancing ages and abilities and encouraging mixed pairings across different coaching groups, the league improved players confidence, built resilience and independence, and encouraged them to move onto entering matchplays or competitions, along with lots of new friendships being formed.
  • Junior Disability Player of the Year – Matthew Radford for always giving 100% effort and bringing a massive smile on court in his tennis sessions and off court with his family in the gym. Mathew’s commitment has been rewarded with much improved play over the year.
  • Club Team of the Year – Grantham Ladies 1st Team for the effort taken to increase the number and quality of ladies attending 1st team training with specific focus on fast paced drills and doubles tactics and techniques, resulting in them completing the “Double” … winners of both winter and summer top division leagues!
  • Club Team Captain of the Year – Melanie Bloodworth who has captained the GTC’s Ladies 1st team for over 10 years in the winter Notts and summer Lincs leagues. Growing the team to 20+ players including a good mix of adults and juniors and providing a pathway for GTC’s better junior players to gain more experience, with several now representing the club at this level and beyond.
