Our court resurfacing is going well!

Upcoming events:

Club Festive social:  Saturday 14th December  7.30pm Meet in the Bell followed by 8.30pm in Zeera.  For more information see EVENTS > CURRY NIGHT.  Please contact Kevin Wilks to grab one of the remaining spaces  kevin.wilks@finres.co.uk

Festive American Tournament:  Friday 27th December  1 - 3pm.  For more information on cost & what to bring see PLAY

Club balls:  With 3 teams now in the Aylesbury District Winter League, plus our Mens Vets team also playing during the winter, we have over 20 home matches scheduled.  Dates can be found under PLAY > MATCH FIXTURES.  We will also be running a Winter League tournament from end Jan/ beg Feb.  So there should be plenty of match balls available for social play.  The captains are aware that all match balls must remain in the clubhouse to be used by all members and no balls should be taken home.  Members will need to provide any extra balls if these run out.

Court booking & Floodlights:  As you may have read in the AGM minutes, we are proud that our courts are used by the local community at a very low rate of £5 per hour. Since 1st April until today's date we have had 95 hours of court bookings from non members. These bookings were made by 39 different people (with at least one person playing tennis with them).  We welcome all these new people to the club, many of whom have found our website by searching on the internet and we include them in our news updates (where relevant), and hope that some of them may join us as members in the future.

A reminder that we have strict planning consent for the use of our floodlights which reads as follows:

Subject to Condition 5 the floodlights illuminating Courts 1, 2 3, 4 and 5 shall only be used for the playing of tennis, shall be fitted with an automated time switch and shall only be used in accordance with the following :

  • 􀂷 Floodlit courts to be used in the following order: Court 5 if one court booked, Courts 5 & 4 if two courts booked, Courts 5, 4 & 3 if three courts booked and Courts 5,4,3, 2 if four courts are booked.
  • 􀂷 No floodlighting shall used after 21. 30 on any day and not before 16.00 hours the following day. And there shall be only 12 Sundays each year between 1 October to 31 March when Courts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are used.

Reason: In the interests of safeguarding the residential amenity of nearby dwellings and the local environment in accordance with Policies CS12 and CS32 of Dacorum Core Strategy and saved Policy 113 and Appendix 8 of Dacorum Borough Local Plan.

Facilities update: As well as our main project which is shown above, some left over ground material has been laid in the car park.  Work will commence soon to improve the hitting wall and the base.

DENS Sponsored Sleepout:  https://www.dens.org.uk/sleepout2019

Just to introduce myself, I’m Chloe volunteering in the Fundraising Team here at DENS and just getting in touch about the Sleepout which I thought may be of interest to you. We have lots of local groups taking part who are learning all about Homelessness and would love Bovingdon and flaunden tennis club to be a part of the action!

Everybody taking part will receive a cardboard box to sleep on and a nightlight that will shine throughout the night as a symbol of hope for homeless people in Dacorum. There will be a silent disco before bedding down for the night, snacks and light refreshments will also be included. What a great sense of achievement for the students/members/ knowing their efforts have helped to rebuild the lives of those facing poverty and social exclusion.

It’s shocking that homelessness is on the increase in Dacorum with a high demand for our many services.

We’d love to have Bovingdon and flaunden tennis club along on the night- every penny raised through the Sleepout will go towards supporting families and individuals facing crisis. I’ve attached a group registration form along with further information about the event.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information  chloe.worrell@dens.org.uk
