Ethos and Rules
We promote a safe, welcoming, positive, inclusive environment where people are valued and respected. Everyone is expected to be considerate, to respect people and their rights, and to show proper care and regard for the Club’s property and the property of others.
General
- Members are expected to behave with due regard for others and show consideration to other members and neighbours of the tennis club.
- Members should leave club facilities and equipment in at least as good a state as they found them. The clubhouse should be left clean and tidy. Stray balls should be cleared from all areas, courts should be swept and brushes left propped so as not to present a trip hazard. (See ‘Volunteers’ on website).
- If you are the last person to leave the courts, please make sure the clubhouse and the gate to the club grounds are closed securely.
- Smoking is not permitted in either the club grounds or clubhouse.
- Changing facilities are for adult use only.
- With the exception of children participating in organised coaching, Junior members under 11 should only be at the club supervised by an adult (member or non-member).
- All members are to be familiar with these rules. Parents/carers of Junior members are expected to make sure these members are aware of the Club rules, safety issues and the club’s expectations
Your health, your safety
- Tennis is usually a vigorous sport. Injuries occur. Play within your physical limits. You don’t have to chase every ball.
- If you have a potentially serious condition, please make sure that the people you’re playing with are aware of what to do if it occurs on court.
- The clay surface is giving and kind, but can be slippery when the top surface is wet and when dry conditions have made the top layer gritty. Test the surface before starting play, and, if necessary, adjust your range of movement accordingly.
Dress code
- The wearing of traditional ‘whites’ is not necessary.
- However, appropriate tennis footwear MUST be worn on court, as unsuitable footwear (eg with a heavy tread) can badly damage the court surface.
Etiquette
- If you have booked a court but find that you can’t use the booking, please cancel so other people can use it.
- If you are playing on a booked court and the session after yours has been booked, please allow the players after you to start on the hour on a swept and cleared court.
- If you are playing on a social ‘turn-up-and-play’ session, make sure that you agree rules for rotation of players to give the most court time and the least waiting time to all. Be prepared to amend the rule if necessary during the session.
Guests
- Guest players are welcome.
- Full Members may have up to 12 slots a year to book guests in, to play with or against, and may book the same guest in up to twice a month. (Though this may be limited by the Committee if pressure on the court affects Members).
- The fee per guest player is £5, to be paid by the member no later than the day of playing through the Guest Membership Fee option on the website membership page.
- Junior members can only sign in other under-18s, and not adults.
Further information
Our aim is to promote the enjoyment of tennis, and to help us do this safely we have various structures and policies in place. We have a Welfare Officer, a Safeguarding Policy, and an Action Plan to steer our regular Risk Assessments. Members can flag risks verbally to a committee member or by emailing info@???. Other than safeguarding matters, complaints can only be made in writing. We also have a Data Protection Policy and a Whistle Blowing Policy. A new Constitution is in the process of being adopted. The Discipline Procedure forms Appendix A and will apply once the Constitution has been adopted.
We hope we can work together to make everybody’s time at the club an enjoyable experience.
