Court Brushing

MTC's courts are some of the best courts in the UK and this is no idle claim - we have had many compliments from visiting players and our Head Coach, Kevin Duffy, has played on many different surfaces at clubs throughout the UK. According to Kevin, "Our courts are as good as any I have ever played on".

All we ask is that everyone takes responsibility for maintaining these fantastic courts and doing so is simple. Please allow five minutes before the end of your booking to allow time to brush your court so anyone with a booking straight after yours does not have to wait on their court being ready. This is simply good etiquette and courtesy.

If any member is unsure about brushing or would like a demonstration, please ask Kevin for a demonstration when you see him on court and he will be delighted to oblige.

Please ensure at the end of every session you brush both sides of the court (either side of the net) starting from  behind the baseline, moving across the court and getting closer each time (with small overlaps) until you reach the net.

There is now no excude for any member not to brush the court after use and, as a member, it is one of your responsibilites as part of your membership 'duties and responsibilities'.

There are two different types of mat which can be used on the courts, depending on the weather conditions.

The Winter mats (made from Astroturf sections) which are ideal to use when the courts are damp or wet, though if the courts are satuarted, please do not use them. These Winter mats should be used with the astro grass side touching the court and the  black side facing up.

The Winter mats should then be left lying flat along the ground, one at the back of court 3 and the other next to the double gates on court 1. These ar e the best positions for them for everyone to use with minimum of fuss and interruption to other court users.

The three drag mats (which hang up on courts 1, 2 and 4) must only be used when the courts are completely dry. If they are used in damp or wet conditions, they will remove clay from the court, they become heavy to use, you will damage them and end up leaving piles of wet clay at the sides. These drag mats work well in the dry as no clay is removed and they remain easy to pull across the court. After use, please ensure you hang them back up on the hooks from the court you took it from - do not leave these mats on the ground, crumpled in a heap - this will damage them and they are very expensive to replace.
