At Newlands, we offer an extensive junior coaching programme. The Club has excellent facilities with 7 outdoor floodlit courts, 4 indoor courts, 2 mini courts, 5 squash courts, two gyms, a physiotherapy clinic, lounge bar and reception.
Our mini and junior programme runs every day of the week and includes classes for Tots, Mini Red, Mini Orange, Mini Green and Yellow players at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
Our highly qualified coaching team offer all players a fun, safe and enjoyable learning environment regardless of standard. All our coaches are part of the LTA Accreditation scheme, meaning they hold an up to date qualification, PVG certificate, criminal records check, first aid certificate and attend regular safeguarding training. To renew their licence, all coaches complete 15 credits of CPD each year. More information can be found here.
Classes
Our programme follows the LTA's recommended age groups, which are detailed below;
Age | Ball Colour/Class |
2-5 years | Preschool/Tots/Parent & Child |
5-8 years | Mini Red |
8-9 years | Mini Orange |
10-11 years | Mini Green |
11+ | Yellow/Junior |
Within each age group we split players into ability based groups. These groups are based on agreed criteria covering a number of factors and players will be encouraged to progress when they are ready by the coaching team. If you are new to the programme, please book in to a level 3 class of your ball colour initially.
*All classes are block bookings unless otherwise stated and are bookable through the Clubspark booking system.
*Non members may attend one block of coaching at the non member rate before joining the club. This does not apply to preschool players.
Competition
Competitive tennis is at the heart of our programme and all players are encouraged to compete both in Club and at external events.
The club also enter a number of teams into the West of Scotland leagues starting at 8&U up to 18&U and this provides a large focus of the mini and junior coaching programme.
If this is of interest, please speak to the Coach running your class who will be able to offer advice relevant to your child.
