Caitlin Steel

Caitlin has played tennis since just after she could walk and as a junior represented both Scotland and Great Britain at all junior age groups. She is still competing regularly and is a member of the West of Scotland senior county team and the Newlands ladies first team. During her time at the club she has been part of the squad that’s won multiple league titles and Scottish Cup titles as well as Tennis Scotland Team of the Year in 2021. She has been coaching full time since 2009 and has been at Newlands since 2011. Throughout the year she leads on the West of Scotland county programme and captains the girls u14 and u18 teams.

Jennifer Steel

Jennifer has played tennis from a young age, representing the West of Scotland at all junior age groups and made her senior debut at 14. After graduating from Stirling University in 2015 with a first-class degree in Sport & Business Studies, she has been coaching full time at Newlands. Prior to that she coached on a part time basis at Strathgryffe LTC and Bridge of Allan Sports Club. Throughout the year she leads on the West of Scotland county junior and mini programme and captains the girls u14 and u18 teams. Jennifer was named Tennis West of Scotland Club Coach of the Year in 2019. She is still regularly competing and is playing captain for Newlands Ladies 1st team and the West of Scotland senior County Cup team. Whilst playing for Newlands she has been part of the team that’s won several league titles and Scottish Cups, as well as Tennis Scotland Team of the Year in 2021.

Mark Malcolm
Level 4 Accredited Coach

Mark is a LTA Level 4 coach and has over 20 years experience as a coach and head coach at clubs throughout Scotland. During this time Mark has coached players aged 3-70 at club, regional and national level. He was also coach to Bruce Strachan who reached a career high 1100 in the world. Mark has played for and captained several North of Scotland county teams at various ages, and his last county appearance was winning the over 35s British County Championships at Eastbourne. He has achieved much success at club level and has competed in Scottish Cup finals.

Emma Gibson
Level 3 Accredited Coach

Emma has been a member of Newlands since the age of 14. She currently plays and captains the ladies 2nd team at Newlands, who compete alongside the 1st team in the West Premier division. As a player, she has represented the county at both junior and senior level. After graduating from Strathclyde University with an honours degree in Sport & Physical Activity, she has been coaching full time at a number of venues. She currently splits her time between Newlands and various venues linked to North Lanarkshire Leisure.

Scott Macaulay
Level 4 Accredited Coach

Scott has been a member at Newlands for over 20 years. He has represented the men's 1st team since he was 13 years old and is the current 1st team captain. Scott represented Scotland at all junior age groups. Currently, he is the Head Tennis Coach of the University of Stirling International Sports Scholarship Program. As a student, Scott completed his undergraduate and masters degree in Psychology of Sport while being a tennis scholar at the University of Stirling. He is the current playing captain of the West Senior County Cup teams.

Craig Kyle
Level 3 Accredited Coach

Craig has been playing tennis at Newlands since he was five years old and has represented the West of Scotland at 18u. Craig competes regularly and was the 18u Scottish (closed) National Champion for 2022. Craig represents Newlands in the Gents 1st team playing in the West of Scotland Premier League. Craig is studying Geology at Glasgow University and represents the University in the North Premier division.  He is part of the Newlands and West of Scotland County coaching teams having gained his Level 3 coaching qualification in May 2022.  Craig has recently completed his Introduction to Padel Coaching course.

Russell Dickson
Level 3 Accredited Coach

Russell has been a member at Newlands for over 10 years, playing in the men's teams at Newlands from the age of 12. He is currently studying accounting and finance at the University of Glasgow and enjoys playing for the Glasgow University 1st team. As a junior Russell played competitively on a regular basis and represented the West of Scotland at U12, U14 and U18 age groups. Russell is still competing regularly in tournaments throughout the UK and currently plays in the Men's 2nd team in the Premier League.

Jack Edward

Jack has played  tennis since he was 18 years old so he knows exactly what it takes to learn to play tennis as an adult. He  has devoted the last 11 years to learning everything about the technical, tactical, mental and physical aspects of tennis, leading him to coach at four different clubs, host a tennis podcast and coordinating the tennis programme for the Glasgow-based charity, Achieve More Scotland.
