12 Counties U18s
It was the turn of our U18 teams to take to Corby for the latest 12 Counties event
A tough day for the girls, having to forfeit a match at No.4 in every tie. Despite this, the trio of Anghela, Zoe and Lisa battled hard with many positives to take away
Stanley, Max, Harry and Rico were representing the boys. Cambridgeshire’s strength in depth proved too strong, a 4-0 defeat. A frustrating tie vs Bedfordshire followed, the team playing well across the board but opportunities not taken. Beds winning 4-0.
Last up were Notts, Stan battled well coming from a set down to win at No.2, after Norfolk received a walkover at the No.4 position. Norfolk finishing the day with a 2-2 draw
Captain Nicky Crawley said it was a tough day for both teams, missing their No. 1 players. However, there’s time to prepare for the upcoming U18s County Cup in March.
12 Counties U16 Boys
The team of Mark, Finley, James and Oscar travelled to Corby, along with Captain Kris Jenkins, where they faced Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Nottinghamshire
A tough first tie vs Cambridgeshire to start, the boys battled hard but faced a very powerful Cambs team, losing 4-0.
Beds were up next. Despite the same results as the previous round, the boys played some great tennis, just missing by small margins.
Notts were last up. Finley started quickly against his injured opponent, Norfolk 1-0 up. Notts winning at 2 and 3 to turn the tie around. Mark needed a W to salvage a draw for Norfolk, he rose to the challenge to win in a tight 3 setter on court 4. A 2-2 draw to end the day.
Captain Jenkins was happy with the fight his young team showed against older opposition and some valuable lessons learn.
