We concluded another fantastic year of the Norfolk Tennis Championships at East Anglia Tennis and Squash Club, enjoyed in mostly fine weather – aside from a very soggy Friday!
This year saw a record 161 entries – the highest in six years – creating a superb atmosphere throughout the week. A total of 259 matches were played across six days, expertly managed by our lead referee Derek and his dedicated team.
Alongside the competition, we delivered inspiring development opportunities:
-
10 young adults took part in a coaching experience day led by Rob Lowe, gaining valuable insight into a career in coaching and starting their journey towards qualifications.
-
35 local children enjoyed their first taste of tennis in fun sessions delivered by Tom, linking them to the county’s showcase event and opening the door to follow-on opportunities.
Friday featured the much-anticipated senior exhibition match, but unfortunately the weather curtailed play. A big thank you goes to county coach Chris Stocker, who stepped in as MC for the event and gave his support throughout the week.
The Championships concluded with Finals Day, blessed with fantastic weather, exciting matches, and the crowning of new champions for another year.
Overall, the event once again brought together players of all ages and abilities from across Norfolk. With such strong participation and energy, it was clear that tennis was the real winner of the week.
