Last weekend our 18u teams kicked off the 12 counties event for this year at Corby.
We started the day against Bucks and the scoreline definitely didn’t reflect the tennis. Both our boys and girls teams lost 4-0 but there were some very close matches and on another day the score could have been different.
Next we played H&W. James got the boys off to a good start by winning in a match tiebreak and reversing the tight loss from match one. Unfortunately, the other boys couldn’t quite continue in the same way with a couple of close 3 set loses and the boys lost 3-1. It was a similar story for the girls with Jemima getting the team off to a good start, but the other girls also couldn’t quite get a win over the line so they also lost 3-1.
In the last match of the day we played Leicestershire. Again James and Jemima got their respective team off to great starts. The boys fought very hard and Harry came back from 4-2 3-0 down to take it to a match tiebreak but unfortunately fell just short. This meant another 3-1 loss for the boys.
Lisa managed to get a win for the girls meaning they drew 2-2 with Leicester so a good way to end the day.
Overall, although the results werent as we would have liked the players attitude and commitment was exceptional. They fought hard for every point and engaged well when I went on court to try and make the changes to turn the match.
