Equip Your Club with Mental Health First Aiders-Join Us in Preventing Youth Suicide-THE NIALL STRINGER FOUNDATION

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Sue Elves and I have recently been appointed as the Secretary of The Niall Stringer Foundation. As part of my role I am reaching out to clubs like yours with an opportunity to participate in our Mental Health First Aider Training.  This programme is vital in creating safer, more supportive environments for young athletes across the UK and most importantly hoping to stop the UKs leading cause of death for people aged 10 – 50 which is suicide.

Why this matters

In 2022, Niall Stringer, a talented 17 year old rugby player for Old Brentwood, tragically took his own life.  In his memory, his family established The Niall Stringer Foundation with one clear mission, to raise awareness of mental health and equip sports clubs with the tools to actively contribute to suicide prevention in young people.

Mental Health is a critical factor in both athletic performance and overall wellbeing.  Sports clubs have the unique ability to influence their players’ mental resilience, helping them thrive on and off the field.  With this training, your club will be empowered to create an open, supportive environment that nurtures both physical and mental strength.

The Training

The training conducted on-line and begins with an introductory evening, where we hope as many club staff, coaches, parents and players over 16 will join (up to 100).  From this initial session we ask that your club selects two individuals to continue the training over 4 evenings. These selected participants will then become certified Mental Health First Aiders for your club – fully funded by The Niall Stringer Foundation.

Why get involved-By participating your club will:

Improve mental resilience among athletes and staff

Foster a supportive, inclusive team culture

Take a prospective role in preventing suicide among young people

Contribute to the growing movement for mental health awareness in sports

Our Consultant for the training is Matt Mason of Mindset Sport, an accredited mental health and wellbeing trainer.

You can also visit our web site which is currently being revamped, for more information.

Take action now

I truly hope your club will take this important step toward supporting your athletes’ mental health.  Please feel free to email me with any questions or to express your interest in joining the training.  sue@niallstringerfoundation.org
