What Is The LTA County Cup Race?
The LTA County Cup Race for 2026 gets underway this weekend with county Under 9 teams across British Tennis competing at different venues.
The Race, first established by the Lawn Tennis Association in 2015, recognises a County’s performances in all County Cup events over a calendar year, from ages 9 & Under to 18 & Under Teams, the Ladies and Men’s Teams, and the Over 35s Teams.
The format differs across the age groups. However, the overriding theme remains the same: players compete for their team, county and in our case with pride for the Norfolk flag. Tennis is mainly an individual sport, but the opportunity to form a team and represent something greater than yourself is rare.
Points are allocated after each event, with updates published on the LTA website.
The County with the most points across all events will be recognised as the overall County Cup Race Champion for that year. For 2025, Surrey were crowned champions. Recognition is also be made to the county making the biggest year-on-year improvement on their previous year's final position.
- Points are awarded per County Cup Event (male and female events).
- For the Summer County Week (first started in 1895), Over 35s and 18&U County Cup Events counties will receive ‘initial’ base points according to the group they are in and then additional (‘group’) points according to their final group position.
- The points for the 14&U, 12&U, 11&U and 10&U County Cup Events are cumulative based on their success at the group stage and the finals stage (if applicable).
- 9&U teams are allocated group points only.
- If a county’s player(s) achieve 15 rubbers out of 15 at the LTA Summer County Cup Event that county will receive two bonus points per player.
Norfolk Tennis’ highest finish in the LTA County Cup Race came in 2017, when the county finished in joint 11th position.
