U/8 County Cup Report

On Sunday 26th of April 16 8&under players competed for Norfolk in the county cup held at Easton Tennis Centre against Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk and Bedfordshire.

Norfolk A boys (Rufus, Caspian, Freddie K and Ethan) came 4th in their group. But, managed to beat Bedfordshire 3-1 in games and were unlucky losing out Suffolk on points after drawing 2-2. The boys also battled well against Essex B losing 3-1 and losing against Cambridgeshire A, the eventual winners of the event.

Norfolk B boys (Hadley, Oscar, Freddie T and Ojas) also came 4th in their group. The boys battled well early on only losing out 3-1 to the Cambridgeshire B boys who were the runners up on the day. But also came up against a strong Suffolk and Essex A team losing 4-0 to both.

Norfolk A girls got off to a flying start beat Suffolk A and Cambridgeshire B 3-1 and then beating Essex A 4-0 to win the group and go through to the semifinals. During the semi finals against Cambridgeshire A the girls drew 2-2 but managed to secure some big wins meaning they went through to the final on points against Essex B. The Norfolk girls lead the tie 1-0. But even though the girls battled well they eventually lost out 3-1 to Essex B and coming 2nd overall which was an amazing achievement. The girls were very happy with their performance on the day and very happy after getting the team teddy down from the curtain separating the courts. Even though they got it stuck in the first place.

Norfolk B girls had a tough start losing out 4-0 to Essex B who beat our A team in the final. The girls then had a good comeback win against Bedfordshire A beating them 3-1. However, the girls narrowly lost on qualification after losing 3-1 to Cambridgeshire A coming 3rd in their group.

Overall, an amazing effort from all the players on the day. A big thank you to the parents for brining the players, some of the older players supporting and helping score and Chris Stocker for running the event.
