We offer a warm welcome, a sociable & inclusive approach plus a proven pathway to starting & developing your tennis. You will quickly make new friends & you'll end up playing socially with players who were in your shoes just a few months or even weeks ago
We offer friendly Saturday morning group coaching with Jill (Lead Coach) & her team. Plus Friday evening social play with players from your coaching group

- 1:1 coaching (adults & juniors) & cardio sessions too

FREE JUNIOR TENNIS
The Club is offering FREE Junior group play on Thursdays in the park through Spring & Summer. This starts Thursday 14th May 2026. This is for children aged 10 to 14 years. You do NOT need to be a tennis club member. The sessions are supervised by our Level 3 coach Jill Le Pla together with Club volunteers.
To take part, please book your child onto the session(s) using the link below. You'll need to scroll down until you find 'Junior Session' entries. It is Girls only from 15:45 to 16:40 then Boys & Girls (mixed) from 16:45 until 17:40. Note that places are on a first come, first served basis:

FANCY PLAYING LEAGUE TENNIS?
We have 3 Ladies doubles teams, 3 Men's doubles teams & 3 Mixed doubles teams. If you fancy giving League tennis a try, drop us a note by clicking the Contact Us form
Team practice happens Wednesday evenings 6-8pm throughout the season.
We also have a Junior Team which will be playing friendly matches against juniors from other local clubs right across summer & autumn 2026.

Adult & Junior Coaching & Club Sessions (doubles) continue right through autumn & winter. For those who prefer singles, there is an indoor winter league too.

2026 SOCIAL MIXED DOUBLES PLAY
Just turn up! Players of all levels of experience are welcome. Everyone moves around after every 5 games so you get to play & chat with lots of folks. These sessions are for Members, but potential new Members are welcome to come along to one session to try us out
- Thursdays 6-8pm on courts 1-4 (2nd April 2026 to mid-October)
- Saturdays 2-4pm on courts 5 & 6 (all year round)
- Sundays (when League matches don't need all 6 courts) - 10am to 12 on courts 1 & 2
About the Club
Introduction
Our tennis club sits in the beautiful surroundings of Rowntree Park close to the centre of York & adjacent to the River Ouse. Walking or cycling is a great way to get here, but if required there is a payable car park on Terry Avenue.

What's the setup here?
The Tennis Club is run entirely by volunteers & is responsible for the management & upkeep of the 6 hard courts in the Park.
The 6 courts are all bookable online. 3 Courts are dedicated to Club Members (Courts 4,5 & 6). The other 3 Courts (1,2 & 3) are available to the public to book & are also bookable by Members at a discounted rate.
The Tennis Pavilion (on the river side next to Court 4) has been re-developed to give us 2 toilets, changing rooms & a kitchenette. This was a Tennis Club initiative funded in part by us & in part by a Council Grant.
There is also a cafe in the Park with toilets.
The Friends of Rowntree Park is a Charity whose volunteers do amazing work in the Park with gardening, litter picking and helping the wildlife. They also run community events and projects with the emphasis on education, mental health and wellbeing. Click here for more info
Why choose Rowntree Park Tennis Club?
Our Club philosophy is that tennis is for everyone irrespective of age & ability.
But it's not only about the tennis. We have social activities happening across the year which help bring people together & form friendships.
We positively welcome new joiners & take great care to introduce them to existing Members so that they can quickly settle in.
We make extensive use of WhatsApp to communicate information to Members on Club activities. We are also on Instagram.
New Members
New members are very welcome at our club! We pride ourselves on being a friendly Club and being good at helping new Members settle in quickly - from beginners to League level players. The Club has organised tennis sessions all year round - indoor & outdoor. And the focus is on tennis for fun!
