Spital volunteers recognised by award from Staffs County Council
Spital is run by a group of around 12 volunteers through its Bowling and Tennis Committees and a Directors group. Without these unpaid volunteers the club would not be able to function.
After being nominated by local County Councillor Robert Pritchard, Staffs County Council recently recognised some of the volunteers with afternoon tea at the County Buildings in Stafford.
Spital has 160 members age 5 to 90 years but is not just a members club. The Council acknowledged that Spital is truly a community asset. There are approx 1,000 individual users of the Spital facilities each year through its coaching programmes (open to non-members), schools tournaments and open day. It has also raised funds and installed a defibrilator that is available to the local community.
Club President Gary Middleton said " we were proud to accept the award on behalf of everyone that volunteers at Spital and delighted that the Council recognise our contribution to the community".
