Billy Peters became a double champion with success in both the men’s singles and doubles at St Ives Tennis Club’s 2021 finals day.
He secured a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 victory over Matt Trevorrow, the 2019 winner who won had held the trophy for two years after last season’s tournament had to be cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.
Former Cornwall rugby player Peters then teamed up with ex-Minor Counties cricketer Chris Martin to take the doubles crown with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Trevorrow and 15-year-old Charlie Eldridge who reached the final in his first year in the senior tournament.
Birte Hosken retained her ladies singles title, beating Aimee Hall 6-1, 6-1 in a match of long rallies.
The ladies doubles went to the club’s ladies captain Carolyn Brown and Robin Clough, who beat Birte Hosken and Zhara Bola 6-4, 6-2.
Tony Wong won the men’s over-50 singles for the fourth successive year with a 6-1, 6-4 win over recent new member Richard Gray.
