ORGANISED GROUP TENNIS
Tuesdays and Fridays (10am to 1pm) and Sundays (10am to noon), members meet to play friendly tennis. It's a 'mix-in' so, in theory, everybody has a hit with everybody else on a quick turn-around basis. The emphasis is on fun rather than competition and it is a great time to improve your game by playing with and against people of different standards.
If you have a smart phone and want to join the 'Social Tennis' WhatsApp group, we can add you - so you can ask who's planning to play - especially useful if the weather looks iffy!
We also run Wednesday evening summer sessions which have re-started for 2024. The courts are booked from 5pm so just turn up at any time through to about 8pm - or later when the light allows
The club now provides free balls for social tennis so you are always playing with new or nearly new balls.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON RUSTY RACKETS (2-3pm) . . .
Following the success of RUSTY RACKETS our Saturday afternoon sessions for developing players have a new look for the summer of 2024.
RUSTY RACKETS is specially for new players or those returning to tennis after a break. Non-members with a TR26 postcode are welcome to join club members for six sessions free of charge to see if they would like to join the club.
Rackets are available to borrow, tennis balls are provided and the only proviso is that players wear appropriate sports shoes. Anyone requiring further information can call or text James Brown on 07932 734950, Chris Allen on 07747 118811 or Stephen Kempson on 07413 449338.
. . . AND MEMBERS’ SATURDAY INTERMEDIATE SESSIONS (3-5pm)
Players joining the club can then progress to the members’ INTERMEDIATE SESSIONS from 3 until 5pm every Saturday if they feel they would like the opportunity to develop their tennis with stepping stone to other club mix-in sessions.
MAINTENANCE ISN'T SUCH A DRAG!
Playing on our new synthetic clay courts is an absolute delight - but they do need looking after!
Members have quickly bought into the need to drag the courts and sweep the lines after playing on the Advantage RedCourt and it only takes a few minutes. It also means courts are ready to play as soon as people arrive.
The top picture shows the team - well at least one of them! - in action. It doesn't really take four people to drag a court and sweep the lines but they all want to be pictured on our website. Honestly, they soon finished the job once the camera was put away.
AMERICAN TOURNAMENTS AND BARBECUES
Sunday morning American tournaments, followed by a barbecue, have been a feature of summer months over the past few years.
The quick mix-and-match format offers members a good-fun opportunity to partner players they might not normally share a court with.
Sadly this year, our American tournaments, like so many other parts of our lives, were affected by the coronavirus restrictions - but the barbecue finally returned in style on tournament finals day with Christian Guerrini taking over the chef's duties.
THE CLUB has in place a Safeguarding Policy supported by the LTA. Details of our policy, contacts and procedures are on the noticeboard in the clubhouse. If you have any concerns about safeguarding issues, contact Chris Allen (by text or phone on 07747 118811) in the first instance, or any committee member.
