Court Care

Thank you to all members for your patience regarding restricted use of the courts during the excessive high temperatures over the summer.  Having invested a lot of money in re-surfacing the courts, it is critical that we treat them with care, especially in the first season.  We are pleased that they withstood the hot weather well.  There is some evidence, however, of damage by bikes and by chewing gum.  Please do not take bikes onto the courts and bin any chewing gum.

Guest Players

Members are kindly reminded that guest players must:

  • be accompanied by a member;
  • be named on the court booking;
  • pay a £5 guest fee per session; and
  • apply for membership if they wish to play more than three times in a membership year (guest fees refunded).

The following link sets out how to make a referenced payment by BACS.  Digswell Tennis Club / Guest Players & Coaches (lta.org.uk)

Committee Membership/Vacancies

The Club owes a considerable debt to Liz Blyth, who for many years, acted as Chair, Membership Secretary and a League Team Captain (to name just a few of her many roles) before stepping down last March.  She and her husband, Richard, the Club’s former auditor, have since moved to Derbyshire to live.  Jana Weiser kindly took on the role of Membership Secretary at the beginning of this season, but she too has now moved out of the local area along with her husband Chris, who was a key member of the maintenance team (and still offers a re-stringing service).  Many thanks to Liz, Richard, Chris and Jana, who have all made a significant contribution to the successful running of the Club in recent years.  We wish them well in their new homes and ventures.

We are pleased to welcome Sunny Varsani-Brown as the new Membership Secretary and Mark McLaughlin as the new auditor.  However, there remain vacancies, which need to be filled to spread the workload.  Please e-mail digswelltennis@gmail.com or adey376@btinternet.com if you feel you can help and want to know more about available roles.

Leagues/Events

We have entered one team in the Datchworth autumn league which runs at weekends from September until early November.  Until more volunteers come forward to help with running leagues and events, we have had to curtail our league participation and our usual programme of member events.

Balls

Babolat or Slazenger balls may be purchased at the discounted rate of £5.50 per tin through Martyn Fulton – martyn.fulton@gmail.com  tel 07785791755  Digswell Tennis Club / Floodlights & Balls (lta.org.uk)
