Writtle Ladies helping out in Covid-19 crisis

Writtle TC Ladies, like all members, are missing their tennis!  All have their own unique situation, working from home, home-schooling, continuing to work in the community, shielding or strict social distancing, caring for family members or finding ways to spend lockdown hours in new ways or catching up on long overdue tasks.

Whilst chatting on a club WhatsApp group.  Conversations led to Ann Bailey sharing her sewing activities for her Son and Daughter in law, who are Doctors on the front line.  Ann’s daughter Becca and Kiyomi Seed, then joined her with their sewing machines, even finding Disney fabric for Paediatric wards.  So far, they have produced 15 sets of scrubs,  a fantastic achievement!  The matching fabric hearts pairs are sent to the ward to share with the patient and their families as they are currently not allowed visitors.

Kiyomi, also is volunteer of the Essex Welfare Service, she goes out into the community to take on tasks such as shopping and collecting medication for those who need the assistance or are self-isolating.

Many of the team are still working their regular jobs, for example Beth Drakeford works in a local Primary school, providing her brilliant catering skills to care for children under social care and other key worker children.  A service much needed to bring the familiar routine to those key worker families.

The ladies miss their tennis so much but it great to see such community spirit and support for one another during such difficult and strange circumstances.
