10U Teams Travel to Corby for the 12 Counties Championships
Following last year’s promotion from Division 2, the Berkshire 10U Girls and Boys squads travelled to Corby go up against some strong opposition in the top tier of the 12 Counties Championship. Competing in Division 1, our players faced formidable line-ups from Middlesex, Hertfordshire, and Cambridgeshire.
The transition to Division 1 is a significant step in the junior pathway. This year’s squads featured several players gaining their first taste of top-flight county competition, including players stepping up from the 9U age group.
Despite facing opponents with greater match experience and more hours on court, the Berkshire players demonstrated remarkable energy and commitment. The day was defined by a team effort to work hard on court, showing grit and tactical discipline.
The Team Captains, Hannak and Nigel, prioritised process-driven goals over match results. By focusing on specific technical objectives and court positioning rather than what was on the scoreboard, the players were able to make tangible improvements during their matches.
The Girls' Team (fourth place finish): Showed great resilience against seriously heavy hitters. A standout performance came from Olivia H, who secured a hard-fought match win against Hertfordshire.
The Boys' Team (second place group finish): Demonstrated high levels of competitiveness throughout the day. The captains were particularly impressed with their listening skills, as the players consistently took on board information and applied it directly to their match play.
The atmosphere off-court was a highlight of the weekend. Both squads had fantastic support from their teammates and parents, creating a positive environment that allowed the players to compete to the best of their ability.
The players represented the county with distinction, wearing their Berkshire kit with pride. They returned home with smiles on their faces, strengthened friendships, and a clear desire to continue their development. We are incredibly proud of the attitude and mutual support shown by both teams throughout a demanding day of competition.
