Less than a year since their inception, the Berkshire squads stepped onto the national stage to face some of the strongest counties in the UK across four categories: Open, Over 40s, Over 50s, and Over 60s.

Berkshire O50 Padel Teams Compete at UK County Championships - 17-19 April 2026

Berkshire’s Over-50 padel teams were in action at Rocket Padel in Bristol for the UK Padel O50 County Championships, delivering strong performances against some of the country’s top sides. A series of fiercely contested matches highlighted just how competitive padel has become at county level.

The Berkshire mixed team, made up of Helena/Adrian and Jonas/Jenny, competed in the top division (Navarro) on Friday. They faced tough opposition, including strong squads from Sussex and East Scotland. Despite a determined effort, they were unable to progress against such high-level competition.

On Saturday, both the Berkshire women’s and men’s teams competed in the Bella Group. The women’s team, featuring captain Mam Aldridge, Pep Stonor,   Helena Shirley, and Jenny Harding produced a number of impressive performances.  One of the key highlights came from the first pair, Helena/Jenny, who secured excellent wins against Leicestershire and eventual champions Middlesex—an outstanding achievement. The second pair (Mam/Pep) also showed great determination, pushing both Middlesex and Leicestershire in closely fought matches, narrowly missing out despite delivering impressive performances. Unfortunately, the quarter-finals did not go ahead, so Berkshire missed a real chance to build momentum and prove ourselves.

Meanwhile, the Berkshire men’s O50 team, led by Adrian Stahl and featuring Jonas Wiking, Paul Sergeant and Kevin Still, powered through the group stages with confidence and consistency building with each match. The team delivered a series of strong performances and decisive win over Oxfordshire secured second place in the group and a well-earned spot in Sunday’s quarter-finals, where they faced a strong East Scotland side.  Despite a spirited effort and plenty of quality  and determination, their impressive run came to an end against tough opposition.  The squads demonstrated progress, resilience and strong team spirit throughout.

Overall, the weekend showcased the growing strength and competitiveness of senior padel, with Berkshire holding their own against some of the UK’s most experienced county teams.

Huge thanks to everyone who represented Berkshire. The team spirit throughout the weekend was excellent, with everyone maintaining high standards while genuinely enjoying the competition. It was a pleasure to be part of such a supportive and positive group.

I was also proud to play alongside Pep, who recently received the LTA President’s Award in recognition of her dedication to women’s and girls’ padel.

Finally, thank you to our supporters Amand and Kate for their help with media coverage and for their support on the sidelines throughout the event.

The best is yet to come.
