Is your child loving their weekly lessons and ready to start their competition journey? Transitioning from practice to competition can feel like a daunting leap for both parents and players. That’s why we are excited to announce the Berkshire Tennis Starter Series 2026 - a dedicated series of events designed specifically to bridge the gap between coaching and competitive play.
The LTA Grade 6 matchplay events are hosted at clubs across the county, providing a supportive environment where the focus isn't just on the scoreboard, but on the experience of playing in a tournament.
Why Enter the Starter Series?
A child’s first competitive experience should be encouraging, not intimidating. These events are built on a foundation of a level playing field and a friendly atmosphere. By hosting events strictly for players with little to no competitive experience, organisers ensure your child won't be matched against seasoned tournament veterans.
The events prioritise sportsmanship and learning above all else. Organisers and scorers are there to help them call out score, where to stand, and enjoy the joy of the game - all at local clubs right here in Berkshire.

Who Can Enter?
To keep the competition fair and fun, these events are aimed at players with little to no competitive experience in their respective age groups. Generally, this means the series is ideal for those who have played fewer than 20 matches in their current age group, or none at all.
Please note that these events are not intended for expereinced county-level players. Organisers will be checking entries ahead of time simply to ensure that these matchplay sessions remain well-suited for new players, keeping the environment relaxed and welcoming for everyone involved.
How to Get Involved
All parents need to do is ensure your player is an LTA Advantage member (which is free to join here). Once they have their membership, you’re ready to start entering events directly through the LTA Competitions website.
We look forward to seeing lots of new faces on the courts of Berkshire soon!
