9U Berkshire Boys at South Area County Cup Finals 2026

Berkshire 9U Boys Claim Bronze at County Cup South Area Finals

On Sunday, 8th March 2026, the Berkshire 9U Boys team travelled to Southampton to compete in the National County Cup South Area Finals. Under the leadership of team captains Nigel Mann and Lewis Brown, the squad faced a demanding day of high-level competition, ultimately securing a podium finish through a display of resilience and tactical discipline.

The tournament began with an early morning journey where, despite an injury that had to be managed throughout the day, every player arrived energetic and ready for the challenges ahead. Berkshire opened the event with a very solid performance against Avon, securing a 5-1 victory. This was followed by a tough encounter with a highly-rated Middlesex side who, responding to a previous surprise loss, defeated the Berkshire boys 5-1.

A brief period for refueling and team bonding preceded a match against the tournament favourites, Surrey. The Surrey team proved difficult to break down, using power, precision, and tactical awareness to take a 6-0 win. Facing the need to regroup quickly with belief and emotional control, Berkshire entered their final match against Suffolk to determine the medal positions.

The team started strongly in the singles, taking wins at the number 2, 3, and 4 seeds to establish a 3-1 lead. Following tactical advice in the doubles, a solid win at the second doubles position ensured a match victory over Suffolk. This result saw Berkshire equal Suffolk on points, but the head-to-head win secured the 3rd place Bronze medal position for the county.

Reflecting on the team's performance, Captain Nigel Mann noted: "This squad is very capable of taking on the very best counties. I am sure the players will reflect on their performances taking away the good and identifying the areas we need to improve. I am sure they will fight; they are ambitious and dedicated to their tennis."

He concluded the event by praising the collective effort of the group: "Thank you to the players and parents for their efforts and loyalty to Berkshire. Congratulations boys - great job!" Berkshire Tennis congratulates the entire team on their achievement and their commitment to representing the county at the national level.

Well done everyone!
