It was a weekend of high-quality tennis for our 10U teams at the LTA County Cup. Both the boys and girls squads represented the county with distinction, demonstrating not only technical skill but also remarkable sportsmanship and team spirit.
Girls’ 10U Team: A Strong Second-Place Finish
The Girls’ 10U squad delivered a series of determined performances to finish in a commendable second place in their group. Throughout the weekend, the team spirit was exceptional, bolstered by consistent support from both the players and their parents.
A key highlight was the tactical communication displayed during doubles matches. The team also benefited from the contributions of younger players still in the Orange Ball/9U category, who stepped up to compete admirably against older opponents. While they narrowly missed out on a finals spot, the weekend was a resounding success for team development. The girls celebrated their hard work with a team dinner on Saturday and a visit to the beach following the conclusion of Sunday's matches.
Hannah Brett, Girls’ Captain, commented:
"I was so impressed by the support the girls showed each other throughout the weekend. Every player gave 100% effort, and their communication on the doubles court was excellent. It was also wonderful to see them bonding so well as a team away from the courts."
Boys’ 10U Team: South Area Finals Bound
The Boys’ 10U team secured their place in the South Area Finals after a weekend defined by resilience and composure. On a demanding and warm Saturday, the team recorded a 6-0 victory over Sussex and a 5-1 win over Oxford, showcasing impressive touch play in both singles and doubles.
Sunday presented a different challenge with much colder conditions. After moving 3-1 up in the singles, including several hard-fought championship tie-break wins, the result came down to the doubles matches. In a tense finish, both doubles pairings remained focused through championship tie-breaks to secure the win and confirm their qualification for the next stage.
Richard Downs, Boys’ Captain, commented:
"The boys worked incredibly hard over a very long and hot Saturday, playing some amazing tennis with great touch. Sunday was a test of focus in the cold, but they stayed disciplined to get the wins we needed. Reaching the finals is a solid performance and a testament to their hard work."
Upcoming: The South Area Finals will take place in Southampton on June 6th and 7th, 2026.
