To participate in a coaching course the player must be registered as a Child/Youth Membership (£15). This permits free use of the courts at any time and to join in other Club activities.

TENNIS STAGES

There are different stages for Youth Tennis. Although we’ve assigned ages to each stage, these are just a guide. Our 'We Do Tennis' coaches will always put children in the relevant group based on their ability. 

BLUE STAGE
LEARN THE BASICS (AGE 5-6)
This is an introduction to tennis, for children to improve their balance, agility and co-ordination. At this stage it’s not about winning or losing, it’s getting to grips with the basics.

RED STAGE
SERVE, RALLY AND SCORE (AGE 6-8)
This will look a bit more like the tennis you know – serves, rallies and volleys – and further develop co-ordination, balance and speed. 

ORANGE STAGE
DEVELOP A ROUNDED GAME (AGE 8-9)
An introduction to tactics and the rules of the game and children will be serving and returning in matches.

GREEN STAGE
TEST YOUR SKILLS (AGE 9-10)
This is the big one. It’s time for children to play on full size courts. Now it’s about growing their game by fine tuning and refining the techniques they’ve learned so far.

YELLOW STAGE
TAKE YOUR SKILLS FURTHER (AGE 10+)
Playing on a full size court with the same size balls the pros use, children will continue to explore different styles on the court, and start to choose their own. There  is some flexibility for older children to attend an adult coaching course if this better matches their ability.

Junior Coaching Sessions

Join us on Saturday afternoons at 1:30pm to 2:30pm for junior coaching. We have a weekly theme to work on different elements, such as rallying, serve and technique. Sessions are £5 on a pay as you go basis. For more details please email wendyanngriffiths@hotmail.com

French Open Team Challenge  for Juniors

Fun tennis based games and matches at our French Open Team Challenge event on Saturday 25th May 2024, at 1:30pm to 3:30pm. For children from 7 to 15 years old, all abilities are welcome. Equipment provided. 

NEW Bursary scheme

To enable tennis to be affordable to all, Bishop’s Castle Tennis Club is offering a Bursary to cover Youth Club Membership for Under 18’s. The normal cost is £15 for the full season. Club membership will be required to join in the Summer and Autumn Holiday Camps and our Autumn series of coaching courses. Youth membership allows free court access and participation in Club events. 

To qualify for the Bursary, evidence of receipt of income related benefit will need to be provided.
