Coln Valley Mixed Doubles Open Tournament

Hill & Valley Tennis Club is well known locally and further afield for the annual Coln Valley Mixed Doubles Tournament, a unique and traditional day of social and competitive tennis.  Around 100 entrants take part and play on private courts kindly loaned for the day by residents in surrounding villages.  The event raises funds for the tennis club, local churches in the Hill & Valley Benefice.  Coffee, Lunch and Tea are served at the Village Hall and the finals are held on the club courts.

The next Tournament is on Saturday, June 8th, 2024.

You can enter on the Events page HERE

The competition is a Mixed Doubles tournament, with the early rounds being played to a Sliding Handicap so that you can enjoy the tennis whatever your standard.

Weather permitting, all players should be able to enjoy a full day of tennis. If the weather is inclement we will still attempt to play as much tennis as possible and give everyone an enjoyable day. Being a catered event we would only cancel in very exceptional circumstances. Those who qualify for the Speke Cup competition from the morning groups will play a further group ‘round robin’ session in the afternoon. Those who would like continue to play can compete for the Scott-Smith Salver. Both afternoon sessions will lead to knockout finals on the club courts in Chedworth.

Notes for Players

Please arrive promptly.  We have to start the morning groups on time so if you are late you may be unable to complete all your games resulting in fewer points.  If you are inviting other players, please make sure they are aware of the arrangements and arrive on time.

Group leaders have instructions for running each session.  In the event of poor weather or court conditions are such that you feel a court is unsuitable in any way please alert your group leader immediately. We ask players to be sensible and remind you that you take responsibility for your own safety.

Seating  Not all courts have seating so you might like to have a folding chair in the car just in case.

Clothing  Please wear predominately white tennis clothing and non-marking tennis shoes.

Courts  Please park thoughtfully at the locations where you are playing and respect the property of those who have kindly  loaned their courts for the event.

Safety  Players play at their own risk and must take responsibility for their own safety. Should the weather or court conditions give rise for concern please alert your group leader immediately and use common sense.

Weather  The event will go ahead unless unprecedentedly poor weather is forecast in which case we would make every effort to contact players the night before or early on the day.

Photographs  We will take photographs of players and participants during the event, which may be used on the Hill & Valley LTC and other websites and/or in news or social media. We assume you consent to this unless you let us know in advance to the contrary.
