STROUD WINTER LEAGUE
For the past four years we have entered a team in the Stroud Winter League organised by Painswick Tennis Club. It is a friendly mixed doubles league competition for the autumn/winter with matches played on Sundays, generally at 10.00am. It's a great way of continuing to play competitive mixed doubles tennis through to the Spring.

Hill & Valley placed second alongside Churchdown; with Cirencester C one point ahead. Chalford placed 4th and Glos Wotton 5th, respectively. A very respectable result with thanks to the team for signing up given the unpredictable winter weather. Our formidable team included Claire Baker, Rob Baker, Zarah Barter, Tim Brocklebank-Fowler, Faye Cooper, Charles Hutton-Potts, Annwen Joffe, Leila Lodwick, Marcus Oliver, Helen Owen, Ian Taylor, Charles Winward, Yvonne Winward.
2025-2026 Ongoing
The 2026-2027 season will start in October.
If you have not already played for the mixed team and would like the chance to play and are available for any of these match dates please email yvonne.winward@gmail.com with the dates you are available to play ASAP.
Here's some more information on what to expect:
Each player plays two rubbers per match (of two sets each, i.e. four sets max).
We play the men's and ladies' doubles rubbers first, then we switch partners and play two mixed doubles rubbers to finish.
You and your partner score a point for each set you win, so unlike the summer leagues, there's no need to get a clear result.
Matches are played from the end of September through to Easter, though we try to play the majority of matches before Christmas to get the best of the weather.
There are normally 10-12 matches in total but you wouldn't be expected to play in all of them.
