STROUD WINTER LEAGUE
For the past four years we have entered a team in the Stroud Winter League organised by Painswick Tennis Club. It is a friendly mixed doubles league competition for the autumn/winter with matches played on Sundays, generally at 10.00am. It's a great way of continuing to play competitive mixed doubles tennis through to the Spring.
In 2019 we had 17 players representing Hill & Valley and we managed to play nine of our ten matches before lockdown, finishing second in Division Two and in 2020 it was cancelled due to lockdown.
2021-2022
10 men and 8 ladies played for the team this season and the games were very enjoyable. In addition to the fantastic achievements of Hill & Valley Ladies in the Summer 2021 and Over 60s Winter League, our Mixed Doubles team ended the 2021-2022 Winter Season in second position in Division Two, jointly held on total points with Cirencester's C team - but we narrowly beat them on the total number of games won! A fantastic achievement, well done to all who played. Interestingly Cirencester's C team beat their B team!

The 2022-23 season will start in October and these are the match dates:
Home: 6 Nov, 20 Nov, 12 Feb, 12 Mar
Away: 16 Oct, 11 Dec, 29 Jan, 26 Feb
If you have not already played for the mixed team and would like the chance to play and are available for any of these match dates please email Hisae Hollingsworth hisaeuh@yahoo.co.uk with the dates you are available to play ASAP.
Here's some more information on what to expect:
Each player plays two rubbers per match (of two sets each, i.e. four sets max).
We play the men's and ladies' doubles rubbers first, then we switch partners and play two mixed doubles rubbers to finish.
You and your partner score a point for each set you win, so unlike the summer leagues, there's no need to get a clear result.
Matches are played from the end of September through to Easter, though we try to play the majority of matches before Christmas to get the best of the weather.
There are normally 10-12 matches in total but you wouldn't be expected to play in all of them.
