GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men’s tennis head coach Jeff Trivette announced the signings of Jack Burkill (London, England), Daniel Hammarstedt (Stockholm, Sweden) and Marcus Vidgren (Stockholm, Sweden) to national letters of intent. All three will join the Spartans as true freshmen for the 2016-17 season.

“I wanted to make a positive statement with our initial recruiting class,” Trivette said. “I am very excited about the three young men that we have signed. Jack, Daniel and Marcus are all very good tennis players, but more than that, they are quality kids that we can build a top tennis program around. When you add them to the talent that we already have, our future is very bright!”

Burkill is ranked in the top 20 in the United Kingdom and has an ITF ranking of No. 564. He won three ITF doubles titles in 2015 and was a runner-up in doubles in the summer of 2015. He has represented his county of Sussex on the men’s county team since the age of 15, winning the Sussex County Cup for U16 singles, U18 singles and U 18 doubles.

Burkill played for Millfield School and won the Independent Schools Tennis Association National Finals in 2015. He was a Millfield School team player and helped it to a runner-up finish at the Team Tennis Schools Nationals in 2015. He previously represented Bede’s School from 2011-2014, reaching the finals those four years as well. He is also part of the Maresfield Tennis Club.
