Senior Students Champions

Girls report

Last Thursday, the girls team, consisting of Anna Rogers , Hannah Parry, Alicia Cruz and myself travelled to Bolton to compete in the Senior Students national finals. Our first match was against Peter Symonds College. After the singles rounds the score was at 2-2 and the doubles brought it up to a close 3 all score. Hence, Myself and Alicia played in a tie break shoot out against their number 1 and 3 player. Sadly, we lost 10-5. The next school we played was St Albans high school. After the singles round the score was favouring Millfield with a slight lead of 3-1. After the doubles matches we were able to seal a win of 4-2. The last school we played was Stowe school in which we anticipated a tough match as they beat Peter Symmonds. After the singles round we were only just still in the running as the score was 1-3. We needed to win both our doubles matches however sadly we were one short and thus we lost to them 4-2.

It was a good trip and the girls team would like to thank Nick, Imogen and Harry for taking us and arranging everything and also the boys for the support.

Mixed report

On Thursday the 8th of March the senior Students girls team and mixed doubles team head up to Bolton to compete in the National finals. Friday and Saturday morning saw the girls fight it out in the group stage before narrowly missing out on a spot in the finals. After a good few days of supporting it was a late start with the mixed on Saturday evening. The first match saw the team play Culford who were seeded 1 in the competition. The team were feeling tight but battled through winning the fixture 6-2 on rubbers. With a fresh start on Saturday the team played Strathallan. With the team firing it saw Millfield take a convincing win in the first round of fixtures. However Strathallan fought hard in the second round of fixtures taking it to a shout-out. Strathallan took an early lead making it 7-3 and with a match point at 9-8 Pippa Chat kept the team in contention with the team eventually taking the tie 11-9. In the last round of fixtures to qualify for the final the team faced Canon Slade. With the team pumped and Kit Hohler on fire hitting bombs it saw the team take a convincing 8-0 win on rubbers taking them into the final in the afternoon. The team faced Lincoln Minster School, the teams first entry into the tournament. However Millfield kept the energy high and with some big support from the squad and team motivator Harry it saw Millfield retain the title for the second year in a row.
