What's On
As well as weekly social tennis for members, at MTC we also have a wide range of events and competitions happening throughout the year, with summer months being busiest, though our all weather courts and floodlights mean we can benefit from playing tennis all year round. Activities include open days, Great British Tennis Weekends, annual Club championship competitions and social events.
Winter Mixed Singles Box Leagues 2025 - Sign up by 2nd November
Entries close at midnight on Sunday 2nd November, with the first round starting on Monday 3rd Novomber, with promotion and relegation after completion of the first round. The second round will start in mid January and end on 31st March 2025. You can join in Round 2 even if you haven't played in Round 1.  This league is free to enter, and available for all members of yellow ball standard.

1. The 'Box' Structure
Grouping: Players are organized into small groups, typically called "boxes" or "divisions," usually consisting of 4 to 6 players each.
Mixed: The league is "mixed" meaning that men and women compete against each other in the same singles divisions.
Ranking/Skill Level: Boxes are usually structured by skill level, with players of similar abilities grouped together. Box 1 contains the highest-ranked players, Box 2 the next highest, and so on.
2. Match Play
Round Robin: Within a set time frame (e.g., 4-6 weeks), every player in a box plays one match against every other player in their box. This is a round-robin format.
Self-Arranged Matches: Players are responsible for contacting their opponents and arranging the date, time, and court for their matches. This is a key feature that provides flexibility.
Standard Scoring: Matches typically use a set, time-based, or tie-break format to keep matches relatively short and manageable, such as:
Fast 4s - but as per last year you can decide the format between you and your partner.
3. Scoring and League Points
Points System: Players earn points for matches played and results achieved.
Result Reporting: Players are required to report the score (often via an online system or noticeboard) promptly after the match.
4. Promotion and Relegation
Cycle End: At the end of the league cycle (or "round"), players in each box are ranked based on their total points.
Movement:
The winner(s) of each box are typically promoted to the next higher box for the following round.
The last-placed player(s) are usually relegated to the next lower box.
Players in the middle either stay in the same box or move up/down depending on the league's rules and numbers.
