Pickleball

We are pleased to be able to offer pickleball activities at Pangbourne Tennis Club, with 2 pickeball courts now painted on court number 3 and 2 movable nets available at the side of the court. The Club organises weekly group sessions ("social pickleball") as well as coaching classes. More details are available on the Play and Coaching pages.

Individual club members who wish to play pickleball should book court number 3. As both pickleballs are on this court and cannot be booked individually, players who only need one pickleball court should post a message on the pickleball WhatsApp group to notify other players that one court remains free to use during their booking.

Please note that the code to unlock the nets or storage box is the same as the court code.

What is Pickleball

Pickleball is easy to learn, fun to play and is a great way to exercise. It’s basically table tennis meets tennis on a badminton court.

One of the fastest-growing sports in the world, pickleball is suitable for people of all ages and abilities and is a very social activity that you can play with family and friends.

The game is exciting, challenging and offers a good workout. In fact, one 30-minute game of pickleball can burn up to 300 calories.

The court is the same size as a badminton court and uses a lower tennis-style net. Players use paddles to hit a plastic ball between one another. You can play as both singles and doubles and it’s a great way to exercise with friends and family or meet new people.

While there are many similarities with tennis, there are some key differences. For example, the ball cannot be volleyed on the serve or on the return of serve and you can’t play volleys from inside the kitchen (a marked out area close to the net).
