5 Point Tie Break Challenge
The final session of the day was the 5-point tie-break challenge—a series of thrilling mini matches where pairs of our top club players took on Danny and Lucie.
Representing the club were Fliss O’Doyle and Austin May; Michelle Griffith and Andy Gray; Sally Hunter and Tom Griffith; Odette Reuter and John Sweet; Guy Muggleton and Barbara Baldock; and Lou Bessell and Lucas Richards.
Every point had the crowd on the edge of their seats, with tension building in each fast-paced showdown. Despite some outstanding play, none of our excellent pairs managed to overcome former Wimbledon player Danny and former British No. 1 Lucie. It was hardly surprising—both were in superb form, and although they may not compete as regularly these days, their competitive edge, precision, and consistency ultimately proved decisive.
There was no disappointment, however. The opportunity to face players of such calibre was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one that will not be forgotten. It was undoubtedly one of the highlights in the club’s recent history—and raising over £600 for a great cause was the perfect bonus. If you missed it, unfortunately it was a one-off—but with a bit of luck, we might just be able to recreate something like it again in the future.
