A Unique Event was held on 18th April 2026

The club was delighted to be selected to host this special event, featuring two former professional tennis players who delivered coaching masterclasses for both children and adults. Participants also had the chance to test the speed of their serve, before enjoying an exhibition match and a fun finale in which six mixed doubles teams took on the pros in a series of five-point tie-break challenges.

Danny Sapsford, Charity Manager of Bright Ideas for Tennis, joined us alongside Lucie Ahl, a former British number one, for a unique afternoon of tennis and fun. You can find out more and view photos in the drop-down menus.

One of the standout moments was the exhibition match, where Kath Wilson teamed up with Danny to face Tom Griffith and Lucie. It was a thrilling contest, with both club players demonstrating excellent teamwork and skill. Tom and Lucie ultimately edged a very tight match to claim the win.

A huge thank you also to all our wonderful volunteers for giving up their time. Without you, events like this simply wouldn’t happen. The hard work behind the scenes ensured the day ran smoothly from start to finish, and it certainly didn’t go unnoticed.

Thanks to those down on the field who helped families enjoy a hit of tennis, and a special mention to everyone who contributed cakes and the cream teas (Michelle Birthday Girl) all of which were not only delicious but gave our fundraising a real boost. We’re also grateful to the team in the Avon Room who kept everyone refreshed throughout the day.

Fliss did a fantastic job organising the raffle, which proved as popular as ever with some great prizes on offer. Thanks too to John Sweet and John Moruzzi for capturing some brilliant photos, and to the working group who planned and coordinated every detail to make the event such a success. Thanks must also go to the SCA for letting us use the kitchen and who donated a prize for the raffle.

Finally, a special thank you to our talented coach Andy, whose enthusiasm and dedication have been instrumental in bringing Inclusive Tennis, Parkinson’s Tennis, Toddler Tennis and Walking Tennis into the club’s offering.

See the photos below for a flavour of the day.
