Trull Tennis Club: Court Colours

Further to the resurfacing of courts 1 and 2 at Trull Tennis Club it now presents the members with an opportunity to decide the future colour schemes for the courts that are currently settling in until they are painted the colours of choice in early spring 2024.

The revamping of tennis hard courts in recent years has resulted in many courts changing colour from the traditional green colour to blue or purple.  Purple is the optimum choice for performance with dark blue a close second and a popular choice that is now selected in two of the four annual Grand Slam tournaments, namely the US Open since 2005 and the Australian Open since 2008, this was a result of extensive research to improve the quality of play.

Colours opposite each other on the colour wheel are called complementary colours, the complementary colour to the yellow tennis ball is therefore purple as it is 180 degrees opposite yellow on the colour wheel. It may seem like an unusual choice for a surface that by tradition has been green, but if considered scientifically, a purple court allows you to see the ball better.  If the yellow tennis ball is surrounded by its complementary colour purple it will appear stronger and brighter, thus improving the quality of play and line calls.

There are four of the most popular options for colour schemes on the Trull Tennis Club: Members Survey and website https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/TrullTennisClub for you to consider and cast your vote.  The Trull Tennis Club: Members Survey is a good opportunity for members to be involved and influence the future of the club, so please complete, and return the survey when you receive it, thank you.
