Playing Standards
Playing standard level – know which group is best suited to you
(If you are unsure, please feel free to get in touch and we will help you.)
New to Tennis / Beginner
This may be your playing level if:
- You have never played tennis before or only a few times.
- You are still learning how to hold the racket and strike the ball
- Rallies are very short or inconsistent
- You are learning the basic rules and scoring
- You want a relaxed, friendly introduction to tennis
Best suited sessions:
Adult Beginner Course / Weekly Groups – start on a short Beginner Tennis Course (courses run throughout the year) or join a regular weekly group session. Supplement your learning with a private 1-2-1 lesson to speed up your learning.
Improver
This may be your playing level if:
- You can keep a rally going with another player from all over the court (e.g. service line and baseline).
- You know the basic rules and scoring
- You can serve and return the ball over and in / in play.
- You are building confidence with forehands, backhands and volleys.
- You want to improve consistency and control.
Best suited sessions:
Adult Improvers Group
Cardio Tennis
Private Lessons to unlock more progress
Junior Development Groups for children aged 4 – 16 yrs
Intermediate
This may be your playing level if:
- You can rally consistently from the baseline (full court length)
- You can serve with consistency, good placement, spin and power
- You understand court positioning and basic tactics
- You can play friendly matches and keep your score confidently.
- You want to develop match play and tactical awareness
Best suited sessions:
Adult Intermediate Group
Cardio Tennis
Junior Performance Groups Ages 4 – 16 yrs
Private Lessons
Advanced
This may be your playing level if:
- You can rally with pace, spin and control
- You play regular matches or league tennis and have done so for several years
- You use tactics, court positioning and decision making effectively
- You are comfortable at the net and in all areas of the court
- You want higher intensity drills and point based practice
Best suited sessions:
Advanced Adult Group
Cardio Tennis (for fitness and intensity)
Junior Performance Groups for children aged 4 – 16 yrs
Private Lessons for refinement
