Opportunities to Play 

Junior Members of all playing abilities can play tennis throughout the whole year, seven days a week*. Members can play with a fellow Member, bring a guest (up to 3 times, see General Rules), compete in teams and tournaments, take part in Wednesday evening and Sunday morning Club Tennis, join a coaching programme, play on Men's/Ladies practice nights, and also come along to the wide range of social events at the club.

*Please note, there are some activities that are restriceted to Adults and Juniors over 18 years of age and Juniors less than 18 years of age who have been awarded Club Colours.

Club Colours 

Club Colours are awarded to Juniors under 18 years of age whose standard of play is good enough for them to participate in ‘adult’ events. These include Club league matches, the Annual Club Championship, other Club tournaments and Club Tennis.  Juniors wishing to apply for Club Colours should contact a member of the Tennis Committee.  

Supervision of Juniors

Please note the Club recommends that children under the age of 13 are supervised by their parent/carer whilst at a tennis venue, and outside of any venue sessions, such as coaching lessons or tennis camps.

Junior Coaching 

The coaching programme for under 18s is proving very successful. There are squads being offered throughout the week and we have over 50 juniors receiving coaching and we also run Easter and Summer Camps if possible (see below). The squads are made up of children of similar ages and abilities. Juniors of primary school age do not need to be a member to receive coaching.

Junior Camps

Camps are usually run in April and August. Information is emailed to members in advance of these dates.

EASTER CAMPS: 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th April 2024, 10am-12noon

Tournaments

There are opportunities to enter club tournaments and also external tournaments throughout the year for Juniors. The main event is the Junior Annual Club Championship which takes place over Finals Weekend in early September. There are also other Junior tournaments arranged throughout the year.

Juniors over 18 years of age and Juniors less than 18 years of age who have been awarded Club Colours can also compete alongside adults in the main Annual Club Championship which begins in March and culminates at the end of the summer with a Finals Weekend. It is a great opportunity to meet and play other Members. Do not be put off entering just because you think you may not have a chance of winning – there are plate events and drawn events too, so everyone has a reasonable opportunity to reach the Finals and win a trophy! Finals weekend is the most popular event of the year, both socially as well as from a tennis perspective. For more infomation visit the Tournaments page.

Club Tennis (Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings)

Club Tennis takes place all year round and is a great way to get to know more members at the club as well as experiencing a wide range of playing standards. It is considered a great social occasion and is open to Adults and Juniors over 18 years of age, and for Juniors less than 18 years of age who have been awarded Club Colours.  For more information visit the Club Tennis page.

Team Tennis

Juniors over 18 years of age and Juniors less than 18 years of age who have been awarded Club Colours can compete alongside adults in the Club's teams. Competitive tennis is very popular at the club, with Men’s and Ladies Doubles, Men’s and Ladies Vets Doubles, Mixed Doubles & Combi teams competing in the Kent League, East Kent League and Maidstone & District League throughout the summer and winter months. If you would like to be considered for one of the teams please contact the Club Captain or Depury Club Captain who will be able to advise you of the team selection process which usually starts 2-3 months before each season.

Men's Monday Night Tennis Practice (Winter only)

Takes place during the Autumn/Winter months from October through to March. As well as adults, this is also open to Juniors over 18 years of age, and for Juniors less than 18 years of age who have been awarded Club Colours. For more information please visit the Adult Tennis page.
