Family Tennis & Buddy System

We pride ourselves at Cowbridge Tennis on being a welcoming & friendly club particularly for families and newcomers !

Here are some top tips about getting the most out of a game of tennis with your family (because we’ve all left the court a little frustrated before!😉):

🎾Play to your children’s level. Don’t try to make younger or inexperienced players play your game.

🎾Use the correct balls (see picture above). There are a variety of different tennis balls which are slower and easier for younger and inexperienced players to hit with.

🎾Make sure you are all using the correct rackets. A racket that is too big and heavy for the player will be hard to control and tire them out quickly.

🎾Make the court fit the players. Use a mini net for younger players, or play in the service boxes. As they improve, expand the court a little by placing markers down to create a bigger court.

🎾Give younger players more time to get ready for the next ball by hitting the ball up before you hit it over back to them (2 touches) or let the ball bounce more than once.

🎾Remember to play fun games. Mix up rallying with throwing and catching, floor tennis, counting games and target practice.

🎾Have fun! Keep games short and accept that attentions spans won’t last long!

Buddy System

The Buddy System is for players who would like to meet with a current member who can discuss coming to one of our social tennis sessions, introduce them to other members or simply arrange to meet at the club for a 1-1 session & to 'have a hit'.

The Buddy ca also tell you about options for coaching & is ideal for those who haven't played tennis for a while or are just getting started.

For the player, it is guaranteed, quality hitting which helps to develop their game. For the 'Buddy', it puts something back into the club & it frees up coaches time to work with more players.

To become a Buddy hitter, please contact Richard Owen on 07974770689/richardsowen.26@gmail.com.

Buddy hitting times during August are on a Wednesday evening from 5.00pm or at a time convenient to the buddy & their partner.
