Pickleball

Welcome to Pickleball at RLTC

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports and extremely popular in the USA. Pickleball has now come to Radyr Lawn Tennis Club and we are looking for a new generation (whatever age) of members to experience this new sport. Pickleball is an athletic paddle sport for all ages and skill levels. It is a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The rules are simple and it is easy for beginners to learn which makes this sport accessible and fun.  Pickleball is highly addictive and can quickly develop into a fast-paced, strategic and competitive game.

The Basics

  • Pickleball can be played indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a modified tennis net. At the club we have two outdoor courts with room to expand in the future.
  • The equipment used is a paddle and a plastic ball with holes. You will probably want your own paddle (bat)once experienced but for now you can borrow them from the Club whilst you learn this sport.
  • The format is either doubles or singles.
  • Scoring is usually the first team to 11 points.

When can I play?

For members to try out Pickleball, please come along to one of our club nights, we have ladies on Mondays and Thursdays from 5.30pm and Mens on Tuesdays from 5.30pm onwards. We also have a mixed session on Saturdays from 2.30pm.

For visitors, please get in touch via info@radyrtennis.co.uk and we can arrange for you to attend a taster session at one of our club nights/mix-ins.

If you are interested in playing Pickleball on a regular basis we have a separate Pickleball membership (see membership page for more details) which means you will have access to book courts for your personal use and have free access throughout the year.

Clothing
Please wear outdoor court shoes and appropriate tennis ( or should we say Pickleball) apparel.

Pickleball Coaching
Head Coach Ellie Lewis is able to offer introductory and taster sessions initially as part of her coaching role at the Club.  As this is a new sport we are all beginners so if you want to come along and get involved please contact us and we'll help to get you started.
