Code of conduct

South Hampstead Tennis Club is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for everyone involved in club activities.

The following principles apply to all members, coaches, volunteers, parents and carers.


All members, staff and volunteers agree to:

  • Put the wellbeing of children and adults at risk first at all times
  • Treat everyone fairly, with respect and dignity
  • Act as positive role models and behave with integrity
  • Help create a safe and inclusive environment on and off the court
  • Challenge and report bullying, abuse, discrimination or inappropriate behaviour
  • Follow the club’s safeguarding, diversity and inclusion policies
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, including on social media
  • Use physical contact only where appropriate and necessary
  • Avoid being alone with a child or adult at risk, except in exceptional circumstances
  • Ensure consent is given before taking or using photographs or videos
  • Avoid smoking or consuming alcohol during club activities or coaching sessions
  • Never abuse, neglect or harm anyone, or behave in a way that could be interpreted as such

All children and young people agree to:

  • Be friendly, welcoming and supportive of others
  • Play fairly and honestly
  • Respect coaches, volunteers, officials and their decisions
  • Behave appropriately and listen to instructions
  • Respect the rights and dignity of others, regardless of background or ability
  • Use appropriate language, including on social media
  • Not bully, intimidate or harass others
  • Not smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs while at the club or representing it
  • Speak to the club Welfare Officer if they have any concerns or worries

All parents and carers agree to:

  • Encourage and support their child in a positive way
  • Use appropriate language and behaviour at all times
  • Be realistic and supportive, recognising effort over results
  • Respect coaches, officials, volunteers and other members
  • Accept officials’ decisions and avoid interfering with play
  • Ensure children arrive on time and are collected promptly
  • Make sure children have suitable clothing and equipment
  • Share relevant medical or emergency information where appropriate
  • Support the club’s safeguarding, diversity and inclusion policies

Complaints procedure

Any concerns or complaints relating to behaviour at South Hampstead Tennis Club, or while representing the club elsewhere, should be raised with the club committee.

All complaints will be considered carefully and fairly. Where appropriate, the committee will investigate the matter in line with club and LTA guidelines. Outcomes may include guidance, mediation or disciplinary action.

The Chair of the committee will make the final decision following any internal investigation.
