RESTARTING IN STYLE

Cornwall League tennis finally resumed in October after an absence of nearly eight months due to coronavirus restrictions and the St Ives mixed team returned in style.
The team of Carolyn Brown, Mel Rogers, James Full and Chris Martin ensured the first league match on our new synthetic clay courts was a winning one as they beat Falmouth A 10-1.
James and Chris overcame Falmouth’s Ben Davies and Mark Sansom 6-1, 6-1 to take the men’s doubles with Carolyn and Mel (pictured) winning the ladies doubles 6-2, 6-2 against Suzie Scorse and Karen Hall.
In the mixed James and Mel beat Falmouth first pair Ben and Suzie 6-2, 6-2 with Chris and Carolyn battling through 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 against Mark and Karen to secure a maximum 10-point haul.
Sadly, we managed just one more match, a narrow 6-4 defeat at Penzance - the sets were level at 4-4 and we lost by three games on countback - before the second lockdown saw Winter League matches called off again. A  planned January resumption never happened because of the third lockdown!
