Alsager Tennis Club's open day has been hailed a huge success after more than 300 people came down to try their hand at the sport.

Families took full advantage of the glorious weather on Saturday (June 24) as they made their way to the club, off Sandbach Road North.

During the afternoon, there were fun tennis-themed games and smaller nets for youngsters to have a go. Club coach Chris Hancock was also on hand offering tips and taster sessions throughout the day.

One of the most popular events was the speed gun challenge, where everyone could see how fast they serve.

Adults were able to join in or watch off the court, while enjoying hot and cold drinks from Midlands Elite Bars, Home Coffee & Studio and Hip Hops bar.

Burgers and hot dogs were available from 1st Alsager Scouts, who ran a BBQ to keep people fed. Ice creams were also on offer for those wanting to cool off.

Later in the afternoon, club member and musician Joel Gardner – fresh from hitting the 95mph fastest serve of the day – performed a set, much to the delight of all present.

The open day, which the club hopes will become an annual fixture on the calendar, culminated with a raffle for prizes kindly donated by local businesses and event sponsors.

Club chairman Alastair Bain was delighted with the turnout.

He said: "It was a fantastic day and I believe our second open day has been even more successful than the first in 2019.

"How good it was to see young children on the courts playing outside and getting healthy. 

"My thanks must go to the sponsors of the event - Franklyn Financial Management, Home Coffee & Studio, Midlands Elite Bars, Hip Hops bar, L'Ulivo Italian restaurant, Tropic Skin Care and Alsager Scouts.

"A lot of hard work went into the event by the tennis club committee and my thanks to them as well. 

"I feel that we may have started something in Alsager, and I'm sure we'll see more children on the courts."
