Remember, it's only just a game!

Please use the following rules with a degree of flexibility and of course, good humour. The ladder is intended to give players the basic structure on which to contact other members and have some fun games. The rules are intended as a guide so please use your own judgement but most importantly, enjoy your matches.

RULES

How do I challenge another player?

  • It is up to the challenger to make contact with their opponent.
  • You may challenge anyone else on the ladder, up to and including 3 places above you.
  • If you join the ladder after the start of the month, you may challenge any player within the bottom half of the ladder as your first challenge.
  • If a challenge results in a win for the challenger, that player moves above the player they have challenged.
  • Each player is expected to play at least two matches every month, otherwise he or she will be moved to the bottom of the table.

The leading player however is exempt from this requirement.

  • The players are responsible for providing reasonable tennis balls for the match or using clubhouse balls.
  • A player who is challenged must agree to a match within a reasonable time of the challenge, and within two weeks unless:

a. The challenged player already has either played 2 matches or has played 1  match  and received another challenge.

b. The challenged player is unable to play due to injury, holiday etc.

c. The two players cannot mutually agree on a date and time for a match.

  • No limit on the number of matches you can play.
  • You MUST NOT challenge another player until your previous match has been recorded on the ladder by the ladder secretary.

New players joining

  • New players to the ladder are welcome to join at any point in time.
  • A new player will play an entry game where they can challenge anyone in the bottom half of the table.
  • If the new player wins the game they take the place of their opponent and all below them move down a place.
  • If the new player loses they start at the bottom of the ladder.

How do players move up and down the ladder?

  • If the person being challenged wins, there is no change in ladder position.
  • If the challenger wins, he or she takes over the position of the person they challenged.
  • The challenged person and all those in places between the challenger and the challenged move down one position.
  • The calculation is based on the position of the two players, at the time that the match results are received by the Ladder Secretary via WhatsApp or email.

Match Score rules

  • First to 8 games but MUST be 2 clear games. (8-6), (8-5) etc
  • Sudden death deuce rule applies, no advantage scoring.
  • If the game reaches 7-7 then the final game (15th game) will be played as a tie-break.
  • Tiebreak is the first to 7 points, if you reach 6-6 on the Tiebreak then the next point is a sudden death point.
  • Courts must be booked on the Clubspark court bookings page for 1 hour only and matches to last 1 hour maximum [including warm up]. If the match is unfinished at the end of the hour, the result is to be recorded as stands.

Where do I send the Match Results?

  • At the end of a match, the score has to be registered by the winner by sending a Whatsapp message or an email to the ladder secretary (Phil Stow) at Alsagerltcsinglesladder@gmail.com, noting who was the challenger and who was the player who was challenged.
  • Please note the Singles Ladder table will be updated in the order that results are received, not necessarily in the order in which the matches were played in.

Please can the Winners submit the results as soon as possible after the match is played.
